Back in 2023, we launched the very first set of Texture & Practice Palettes – a simple but powerful toolkit for hobbyists and miniature painters. Since then, these palettes have become a go-to resource for painters looking to test techniques, experiment with color schemes, and refine their skills before committing paint to a miniature or piece of terrain.
Fast forward to early 2025, we released the Vol. 1 Bundle, expanding the range even further. And now – by popular demand – we’re back on Kickstarter with an all-new Vol. 2 Bundle!
Whether you’re just starting out in miniature painting or you’re a seasoned pro, these palettes will help you practice without fear, avoid wasted time, and push your painting skills further.
Why Practice Palettes?
Every painter knows the frustration of ruining a model with a failed experiment. Maybe a new wash didn’t behave as expected, or that OSL attempt ended up looking more like a smudge than a glow. With a texture palette, you don’t have to worry about that.
Each palette is designed to give you surfaces, shapes, and textures that match what you’ll encounter on actual miniatures and scenery – but in a safe, test-friendly format.
You can:
- Prime and paint them as many times as you like
- Run drills to sharpen your drybrushing or edge highlighting
- Test new paints, washes, oils, and weathering powders
- Practice decals, stencils, and special effects
- Build confidence before applying techniques to your models
It’s all about repetition, experimentation, and improvement – without the risk of messing up something you’ve spent hours building.
What Can You Practice?
The palettes cover a huge variety of textures and effects, including:
- Neon signs, plasma glow & OSL
- Mud, lava, rock, wood & concrete
- Fur, scales & carapace
- Corrosion, rust, dust & grime
- Skin tones & facial details
- Weapons, armor & shields
- Screens, consoles, lenses & optics
- Banners, cloth, and flags
- Streaks, stains & weathering
- Camouflage, decals & stencils
…and lots more!
With Vol. 2, we’re introducing brand-new surfaces and designs, giving you even more ways to push your skills further.
Practical and Print-Friendly
Size: Each standard palette is 10x14cm – big enough to be useful, small enough to store easily.
Workspace Ready: Optional holding racks keep everything organized and let your palettes dry properly between sessions.
Easy to Print: STL files are optimized for FDM printing without supports, but they also look fantastic in resin. Most palettes print in under 2 hours on a standard printer.
Commercial Licences
Our palettes are incredibly popular with print shops and merchants – and yes, we’re offering Commercial Licences for this campaign too.
With a licence, you can:
- Sell 3D printed copies of our palettes and terrain
- Get listed on our website as a licensed print partner
- Convert all your previous Saucermen Studios files into commercial use
If you’re a business-minded hobbyist, this is a great way to expand your product offering with designs people already love. Get your commercial licence here.
