Here’s how I added flickering lanterns using TerrainTronics components to your fantasy scenery

How to add flickering lanterns to terrain with terraintronics conway castle

Looking to bring your tabletop scenes to life with flickering lanterns? In this quick guide, we’ll show you how we added Real LED effects to the graveyard terrain from our DarkMyth Village set. Using components from TerrainTronics, you can easily add atmospheric lighting without any soldering – perfect for spooky setups, night battles, or haunted RPG encounters.

What You’ll Need

  • Conway Castle Board from TerrainTronics
(USB powered, adjustable brightness, supports up to 4 LEDs)
  • 3mm Flickering LEDs (we used orange for a warm lantern glow)
  • Wire Wrap Tool + 30 gauge wire
(a simple, solder-free way to connect components)
  • 3D Printable Terrain with built-in wiring channels
(like the graveyard junction pieces from DarkMyth Village)

Step-by-Step: Adding the Lights

Step 1 – Prepare Your Wires
Strip about 1 inch of insulation from each end of your wire.

Step 2 – Connect to the Power Board
Use the wire wrap tool to attach a wire to the positive terminal on the Conway Castle Board.
Repeat for the negative terminal, and do the same for each LED you plan to install (up to four).

Step 3 – Wire the LEDs
Connect the positive wire to the long leg of your LED, and the negative wire to the short leg.

Step 4 – Power It Up
Plug the board into any 5V USB source (like a battery pack or wall adapter).

Step 5 – Adjust the Brightness
Turn the built-in potentiometer to control the LED brightness to your liking.

Step 6 – Install the LEDs
Insert the LEDs into junction pieces from the DarkMyth Village graveyard set.
They feature push-fit lantern mounts and built-in wiring channels—no extra drilling needed!
